I spent several months working on a live action adaptation of Akira with director Albert Hughes. The project seemed to attract a lot of  negative feedback from various commentators who had made erroneous assumptions about our choices. There seemed to be a general sigh of relief from fandom when our version was cancelled two weeks ahead of pre-production. However when people finally got to see some images from our adaptation they seemed to be pleasantly surprised at how faithful we were.
